Where’s the Freight? Jonesboro, Texarkana and Tucson Projected To Be Hottest Freight Markets This Week

Welcome to your Friday edition of “Where’s the Freight?,” Trucker Tools’ free freight forecast for drivers and fleets. In every edition of our free freight forecast, you’ll discover where demand and rates for freight are projected to high, low, increasing and decreasing across the United States and Canada over the coming week. In today’s forecast, you’ll notice that two markets (Jonesboro, Ark., and Texarkana, Texas) each appear twice in our Top Five Hottest Markets list, which has never happened previously. The Jonesboro, Ark., power only market claims the top spot in today’s Top Five with demand this week projected to be four times higher than it was during the same week last year.  

Where Demand/Rates Will Be Highest or Rising This Week

  • Flatbed demand and rates for Texarkana, Texas, are projected to be high. Flatbed demand for South Bend, Ind., Northern Ontario and Montgomery, Ala., is likely to increase. 
  • Reefer demand and rates for Texarkana, Texas, Jonesboro, Ark., and Tucson, Ariz., will be very high. Reefer demand to/from Texarkana, Texas, and Dodge City, Kan., is expected to rise.
  • Power only demand and rates to/from Jonesboro, Ark., are likely to be extremely high. 

Where Freight Demand/Rates Will Be Lowest or Falling This Week

  • Flatbed demand and rates for El Paso, Texas, Yakima, Wash., and Brooklyn, N.Y., are projected to be extremely low. Flatbed demand for Winnipeg, Manitoba, once again is expected to decline.
  • Reefer demand and rates for Pittsburgh will likely be very low. 
  • Power only demand and rates for Medford, Ore., are projected to be low. Power only demand for Omaha, Neb., and Wichita, Kan., are expected to decrease.

  • Five Hottest Markets this week: 1. Jonesboro, Ark. (power only), 2. Texarkana, Texas (reefer), 3. Texarkana, Texas (flatbed), 4. Jonesboro, Ark. (reefer), and 5. Tucson, Ariz. (reefer). 
  • Five Coldest Markets this week: 1. El Paso, Texas (flatbed), 2. Pittsburgh (reefer), 3. Medford, Ore. (power only), 4. Yakima, Wash. (flatbed), and 5. Brooklyn, N.Y. (flatbed).
  • Market To Watch: This week, the Jonesboro, Ark., power only market will favor owner ops and fleets by more than two to one.
  • Over the next five to seven days, demand for reefer capacity to/from Texarkana, Texas, is projected to increase by more than 50 percent.
  • FreightWaves’ latest Weekly Ruel Report finds that the average per gallon price for diesel fuel purchased at a truck stop has decreased slightly since last week.
  • The outbound Medford, Ore., power only market will favor shippers by three to one in the coming week.
  • Police in Southern California are warning truckers that there has been a local and national rise in the theft of common powertrain controllers from semis.
