You’ll see lots of familiar names in today’s Top Five Hottest Markets list, with the Texarkana, Texas, flatbed market claiming the top spot as the best market for truckers and carriers this week. Speaking of flatbed, you can expect demand for flatbed capacity to be on the upswing this week to/from Shreveport, La., as Louisiana deals with the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. If you’re running reefer, look for reefer demand to increase in the coming week for Texarkana, Texas, and Lexington, Ky. — two major beef production, processing and distribution markets. Demand for power only will be on the rise this week inbound to and outbound from two major coastal ports, while Edmonton, Alberta, will remain the most profitable dry van market in North America.

Hottest Markets
- In the coming week, Texarkana, Texas, and Southwestern Ontario are projected to be the highest demand/highest rate flatbed markets in North America. You also can expect flatbed demand to rise over the next five to seven days to/from Shreveport, La.
- Reefer demand will be high this week to/from Dodge City, Kan. Reefer demand to/from Texarkana, Texas, and Lexington, Ky., will be on the rise over the next five to seven days.
- Once again, El Paso, Texas, is expected to be the top power only market for truckers and carriers this week. Power only demand will increase in the coming week to/from Richmond, Va., and San Francisco.
- Edmonton, Alberta, is projected to be the highest demand/highest rate dry van market over the next five to seven day period.
Coldest Markets
- Yakima, Wash., and Montreal, Quebec, are projected to be the lowest demand/lowest rate flatbed markets in North America in the coming week.
- If you’re running reefer, you’ll once again want to rethink taking loads into or out of Hartford, Conn., as it will be the lowest demand/lowest rate market in North America this week.
- Demand for power only capacity to/from Fort Worth, Texas, will be extremely low over the next five to seven days. Demand for power only capacity will decrease this week to/from San Diego.
Trucker Tools’ Market Insights
- According to data from Trucker Tools’ software platforms, these will be the five most profitable markets for truckers this week: 1. Texarkana, Texas (flatbed), 2. Dodge City, Kan. (reefer), 3. El Paso, Texas (power only), 4. Southwestern Ontario (flatbed), and 5. Edmonton, Alberta (dry van).
- The five least profitable markets for truckers will be: 1. Hartford, Conn. (reefer), 2. Fort Worth, Texas (power only), 3. Yakima, Wash. (flatbed), 4. Vancouver, British Columbia (reefer), and 5. Montreal, Canada (flatbed).
- According to FreightWaves’ most recent Daily Market Update, national outbound tender rejections and volumes are up slightly today.
- On Friday, the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach announced that they will extend port operation hours at truck gates to reduce the backlog of containers at both ports, which is disrupting retail, manufacturing and agricultural supply chains.
- Inbound flatbed loads to Texarkana, Texas, projected to be the market with the highest demand for capacity this week, will favor truckers and carriers by more than two to one, meaning there’s likely to be at least two loads available for every flatbed trailer headed into the region.
- Last month was the busiest month on record for the Port of Virginia in Norfolk, where demand for power only capacity is projected to rise this week.
- Inflation is worsening rising repair costs (both parts and labor) for truckers and carriers.
