Where’s the Freight? Texarkana, Southwestern Ontario, Medford, Tucson and Rapid City Expected To Be Best Markets for Truckers Over Next Week

High volumes of imported goods from China, record-breaking home construction and the rebounding manufacturing sector continue to fuel demand for flatbed truck capacity across North America. That’s why you’ll see in today’s edition of “Where’s the Freight?” that four of the five hottest markets for truckers in the coming week will be flatbed markets. Over the next five to seven days, the Texarkana, Texas, flatbed market is projected to be the most profitable market for truckers/carriers in North America, while Tucson, Ariz., will be the best reefer in the market in the country. You also can expect to see demand for power only capacity heat up in several Texas markets in the coming week.

Best Markets for Truckers, Carriers

  • Demand and rates for flatbed capacity are expected to be high over the coming week for Texarkana, Texas, Southwestern Ontario, Medford, Ore., and Rapid City, S.D. Demand for flatbed is projected to increase this week in and out of Lexington, Ky. 
  • Tucson, Ariz., will remain the top reefer market in the country for truckers and carriers over the next five to seven days. Demand for reefer capacity in and out of Dodge City, Kan., will likely increase in the coming week. 
  • Expect demand for power only capacity to go up this week for Jacksonville, Fla., Fort Worth, Texas, and El Paso, Texas. 

Worst Markets for Truckers, Carriers

  • Northern Ontario will be the least favorable flatbed market for truckers and carriers over the next five to seven day period. 
  • Expect Hartford, Conn., Billings, Mont., and Seattle to be the least profitable reefer markets in the country in the coming week for truckers and carriers. Reefer demand will decline in the next week for Winnipeg, Manitoba.
  • Demand for power only capacity will be decreasing this week for Salt Lake City.
  • The Dodge City, Kan., dry van market will be the least profitable market in North America over the next week.

  • According to the latest data from Trucker Tools’ software platforms, the five most profitable freight markets for truckers/carriers this week will be: 1. Texarkana, Texas (flatbed), 2. Southwestern Ontario (flatbed), 3. Medford, Ore. (flatbed), 4. Tucson, Ariz. (reefer), and Rapid City, S.D. (flatbed). 
  • The five least profitable freight markets for truckers/carriers this week will be: 1. Dodge City, Kan. (dry van), 2. Hartford, Conn. (reefer), 3. Billings, Mont. (reefer), 4. Northern Ontario (flatbed), and 5. Seattle (reefer).
  • Dodge City, Kan., where demand for reefer capacity is projected to increase this week, is home to several agricultural and meat processing facilities, including Cargill, Tyson and National Beef. These three companies process as much as 25 percent of the country’s beef. 
  • Several defense, metal, machine, equipment, fencing, building materials and aviation companies have manufacturing facilities located in Texarkana, Texas, which are likely responsible for the high demand for flatbed capacity in the area.
