Where’s the Freight? Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago, Denver and Salt Lake City Projected To Be Top Markets for Truckers/Carriers Over Next Week

Welcome to your mid-week edition of Trucker Tools’ “Where’s the Freight?,” a free market report that tells you which markets will be the most and least profitable over the next five to seven day period. In today’s edition of “Where’s the Freight?,” you’ll notice that dry van continues to dominate our Top Five Hottest Markets list, claiming four of the top five spots. This week, you can expect demand for dry van to increase in several major import/distribution markets, while demand for dry van is projected to be extremely low in one major Michigan market this week. Demand for flatbed inbound to and outbound from Denver is likely to be relatively high in the coming week, while Harrisburg, Pa., claims two spots in our Rising Markets list.

Best Markets for Truckers/Carriers

  • You can expect demand for flatbed capacity to be high this week running to/from Denver.
  • Look for demand for reefer to increase this week to/from Harrisburg, Pa.
  • Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago and Salt Lake City will be the highest-demand dry van markets in the coming week. Demand for dry van is likely to increase this week to/from Chicago, Harrisburg, Pa., Los Angeles and Dallas.

Worst Markets for Truckers/Carriers

  • Expect demand for dry van running to/from Grand Rapids, Mich., to be extremely low this week.

Trucker Tools’ Market Insights

  • Today’s Trucker Tools data shows that the five most profitable markets for truckers and carriers this week will be: 1. Dallas (dry van), 2. Atlanta (dry van), 3. Chicago (dry van), 4. Denver (flatbed) and 5. Salt Lake City (dry van).
  • The five markets where demand is expected to increase this week are: 1. Harrisburg, Pa. (reefer), 2. Chicago (dry van), 3. Harrisburg, Pa. (dry van), 4. Los Angeles (dry van), and 5. Dallas (dry van).
  • The reefer market in Harrisburg, Pa., favors carriers by more than three to one for both inbound and outbound loads.
  • Current demand for dry van to/from Dallas is twice as high as it was at this time in 2020.
  • According to today’s FreightWaves’ Daily Market Update, national outbound tender rejections and outbound tender volumes are down, while outbound tender rejections are up for Stockton, Calif., Kansas City, Mo., Memphis, Tenn., and Joliet, Ill.
  • FreightWaves also is reporting today that outbound tender volumes are up for Detroit, Ontario, Kansas City, Mo., Stockton, Calif., and Los Angeles.
  • COVID-19 outbreaks in Shenzhen, China, have reduced productivity in the region by as much as 30 percent, which is limiting maritime exports from the area.
