Where’s the Freight? Ithaca, Dodge City, Texarkana and New Castle To See High Demand This Week

In the coming week, the Ithaca, N.Y., reefer market is expected to see extremely high demand, which is why it ranks number one in today’s Top Five Hottest Markets list. In fact, demand for reefer capacity this week inbound to and outbound from Ithaca, N.Y., is expected to be three times higher than it was last year.

Where Freight Demand/Rates Will Be Highest or Rising This Week

  • Flatbed demand and rates for Texarkana, Texas, will be elevated. Demand for flatbed capacity to/from Montgomery, Ala., and Texarkana, Texas, is projected to rise.
  • Reefer demand and rates for Ithaca, N.Y., Dodge City, Kan., and Texarkana, Texas, are expected to be extremely high. Demand for reefer capacity to/from Texarkana, Texas, is likely to increase.  
  • Power only demand and rates for New Castle, Del., likely will be high. Power only demand to/from Pendleton, Ore., and Salt Lake City is projected to increase.

Where Freight Demand/Rates Will Be Lowest or Falling This Week

  • Flatbed demand and rates for Fargo, N.D., El Paso, Texas, and Brooklyn, N.Y., are projected to be very low. Flatbed demand to/from Montreal, Quebec, is expected to decline.
  • Power only demand and rates for Saginaw, Mich., and Bloomington, Ill., are likely to be extremely low. Power only demand to/ Mobile, Ala., and Los Angeles is expected to decrease.
  • Dry van demand and rates inbound to and outbound from Ithaca, N.Y., are likely to decline.

  • Five Coldest Markets this week: 1. Saginaw, Mich. (power only), 2. Fargo, N.D. (flatbed), 3. Bloomington, Ill. (power only), 4. El Paso, Texas (flatbed), and 5. Brooklyn, N.Y. (flatbed).
  • Market To Watch: Over the next week, demand for reefer capacity to/from Dodge City, Kan., will be four times higher than it was during the same week in 2021.
  • In the coming week, demand for reefer capacity inbound to and outbound from Texarkana, Texas, is expected to double.  
  • According to Freightwaves’ Weekly Fuel Report, the average per gallon price for a gallon of diesel fuel at a truck stop is $5.43.
  • The newest USDA Specialty Crops National Truck Rate Report found that there are shortages of capacity in Southwestern Indiana and Southeastern Illinois, Southeastern Missouri and Eastern North Carolina.
