With this ongoing blog series, we’re introducing you to the people behind the scenes at Trucker Tools, including folks from the marketing, technology, customer success, customer support, sales and other teams within the company. In this blog, you’ll be introduced to Lan-phuong Dinh, Trucker Tools’ Technology Manager. Before she came to Trucker Tools in 2020, Lan spent 20 years working as a software architect and engineer, including building software applications centered on technical, safety and labor compliance within the maritime shipping industry. When she’s not at work, Lan enjoys hiking and biking with her son, as well as traveling.

We’re happy to introduce you to Trucker Tools’ Technology Manager, Lan-phuong Dinh, who is passionate about exploring new ways of doing things.

Name: Lan-phuong Dinh

Title: Technology Manager

Pets: Parrot Lemony (her son’s)

What Lan’s Co-Workers May Not Know About Her: She likes to sing karaoke and is good at it.

What Lan Does at Trucker Tools

“I do design and coding. I manage the technology team — a team of 15 people — and I help create and apply processes within the tech team,” said Lan. “I work primarily on the backend of Smart Capacity, Trucker Tools’ digital freight matching platform, and the company’s load tracking platform.

What Lan Likes About Working at Trucker Tools

“The application is still new to me and it’s very interesting to me,” Lan said. “Also, Trucker Tools is a startup company and everybody is focused on making the products better. That’s the goal of our team and for the entire company — to make the products better.”

Lan Is Currently Working On…

“At the moment, we’re working on a new authentication authorization strategy to combine and apply across all of our products,” shared Lan. “It’s called Auth0, which is a big thing right now. It’s a new kind of authentication and service.”

Things Lan Has Learned as Member of the Trucker Tools Team

“I’ve learned about the industry,” said Lan. “I’ve learned a lot about trucking and the cloud technology that we use at Trucker Tools. I’ve also learned a lot about process improvement. It’s interesting. I’ve learned about the business side of transportation. Even though I’d seen and heard about trucking and transportation, I didn’t know a lot about it before. Working at Trucker Tools has made me realize how many carriers and drivers are out there and better understand the needs of freight brokers.”

How Trucker Tools Has Helped Lan Grow

“With some companies, they already have a process to follow,” Lan said. “Here at Trucker Tools, we are creating and improving our processes to make them more efficient and more productive. We need to come up with new ideas, be open to change and adapt to change.”

What Lan Likes To Do Outside of Work

“I like to go to the gym, hike and bike, and I travel a lot,” shared Lan. “I just bought a new hybrid bike and have gotten into biking over the last two years because of the pandemic. I was pushing my son to get outdoors during the pandemic and I started biking with him. The longest ride I’ve done so far is 50 miles on the C&O Canal Trail in the Washington D.C. area. I’m thinking of joining a biking group, too. They do rides that are 75 or 100 miles long.”

Lan’s Passionate About…

“I love learning new things at work,” said Lan. “The technology is always there and we always have new things to try to do better, new ways of doing things. I get excited about that. Outside of work, I’m not a good cook, but I love eating and I watch a lot of cooking shows. I also really want to get more into hiking and biking. I’d like to hike all of the National Parks. We did Yosemite last year and we also went up north to Cadillac Mountain in Maine. I love music. I recently saw John Legend. I’ve also seen Lady Gaga, Celine Dion and Elton John.”
