Welcome to the newest and final edition of “Where’s the Freight?,” Trucker Tools’ free market forecast for owner operators and carriers. This trucking market forecast tells you where demand (and rates) for specific types of freight will be high, low, increasing and decreasing in the coming week. With these insights, you can maximize your profits by prioritizing loads into markets where demand is projected to be high or increasing and avoiding loads that take you into markets that are expected to see low demand and rates. 

Where Demand/Rates Will Be Highest or Rising This Week

– Flatbed demand and rates for Little Rock, Ark., Wheeling, W.Va., Mobile, Ala., and South Bend, Ind., are likely to increase.
– Reefer demand and rates for Tucson, Ariz., Jonesboro, Ark., and Texarkana, Texas, are expected to be high. Reefer demand for Winnipeg, Manitoba, is projected to rise.
– Power only demand and rates for San Diego and Fort Wayne, Ind., are expected to be high. 

Where Freight Demand/Rates Will Be Lowest or Falling This Week

– Flatbed demand and rates for Yakima, Wash., and Brooklyn, N.Y., will be low. Flatbed demand for Winnipeg, Manitoba, is likely to decline.
– Reefer demand and rates for Cheyenne, Wyo., and Hartford, Conn., will be low. 
– Power only demand and rates for Bloomington, Ill., are expected to decrease.
– Dry van demand and rates for Regina, Saskatchewan, will be low.

– Five Hottest Markets this week: 1. Tucson, Ariz. (reefer), 2. Jonesboro, Ark. (reefer), 3. Texarkana, Texas (reefer), 4. San Diego (power only), and 5. Fort Wayne, Ind. (power only).
– Five Coldest Markets this week: 1. Yakima, Wash. (flatbed), 2. Regina, Saskatchewan (dry van), 3. Cheyenne, Wyo. (reefer), 4. Brooklyn, N.Y. (flatbed), and 5. Hartford, Conn. (reefer).
– Market To Watch: In the coming week, demand for flatbed capacity inbound to and outbound from Little Rock, Ark., is likely to increase significantly, with demand projected to be five times higher year over year.
– The Jonesboro, Ark., reefer market will favor drivers and carriers by more than two to one this week. 
– According to new data just released by CargoNet, cargo theft in the United States and Canada involving a semi or trailer increased by 17 percent in 2022, while the average value of freight stolen in a theft event in 2022 was more than $214,000.
– The newest Specialty Crops National Trucker Rate Report from the U.S.D.A. indicates there currently is a slight capacity shortage in Eastern North Carolina and slight capacity surplus in Central and Southern Florida.
