How Ryder Is Leveraging the Trucker Tools Driver App To Reduce App Fatigue, Improve Loyalty and Deepen Capacity Choices

Trucker Tools recently co-hosted a webinar with FreightWaves entitled Inside Scoop: How Ryder Differentiated Their Brokerage With Trucker Tools. This webinar featured Trucker Tools’ CEO and Founder Prasad Gollapalli and Dave Belter, Vice President and General Manager of Global Transportation Management Solutions for Ryder. The webinar discussion centered on how Ryder is leveraging Trucker Tools’ driver app, digital freight matching, real-time visibility platform and Book-It-Now® to improve carrier loyalty and foster future growth. According to Belter, Trucker Tools’ technology is allowing Ryder to onboard carriers more quickly, meet shippers visibility requirements, gain efficiency and accuracy, and help carrier partners make better business decisions.

Reducing App Fatigue

In the webinar, Belter said that just like every other broker, Ryder focuses on carriers as critical customers. He said that Ryder wants to offer carriers an environment where they’re going to find benefits and tools to make better business decisions. According to Belter, Trucker Tools provides exactly that environment.

We’re utilizing Trucker Tools technology to be a real partner to our carriers,” said Belter. “The beauty of Trucker Tools is that if I’m a carrier, I’ve got app fatigue, especially if I’m a small to mid-size carrier. As brokers, we’re not going to satisfy every carrier partner of ours every time. In the off chance that we can’t keep the carrier moving, they can use Trucker Tools as a marketplace to find someone who can. The Trucker Tools app allows carriers to work with multiple third parties and in one place. That’s a real advantage for us and for the carriers.”

Improve Carrier Loyalty

“We just were delighted to find Trucker Tools as a significant marketplace that we could plug into to develop carriers, to execute our transactions digitally, enjoy greater efficiency and provide additional benefits to our carriers,” noted Belter. “We’re planning to use Trucker Tools to build out our carrier program. We want to be able to provide our partners with additional benefits for doing business with Ryder. We look at Trucker Tools as a digital mall and we’re just one of the stores in that mall that carriers can choose to walk into.”

Belter noted that offering options such as quick pay or in-app document uploads to carriers allows you to quickly pay carriers and bill your customers faster, which can boost carrier loyalty. Ryder is using Trucker Tools’ Broker Advantage to further encourage carrier loyalty and to build its own brand among the 165,000 trucking companies and 1.2 million truckers that use Trucker Tools’ technology.

More Capacity Choices

“All brokers are always in the market to find additional carriers that are available to do business,” Belter said. “That doesn’t ever end. We’re all competing for freight and for carrier capacity — that’s what brokers do. It’s just a matter of where you go and how you leverage available tools to quickly find those carriers that meet the freight requirements that you have. I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but Trucker Tools is a great place to go because there are already 165,000 carriers using the technology.”

Belter also noted that transportation is still very much a people business and that brokers and carriers do still have to have telephone conversations, learn from each other and get to know each other. Once you’ve reached that state, he views technology like Trucker Tools’ as ideal for standard business to business digital transaction management. Belter sees relationship management tools like those offered by Trucker Tools as critical in growing your carrier portfolio, as well.
